Thank you, Fairoak - you have helped me build up my trust and confidence, and supported me to move on with my life
Fairoak Housing's New Bowman Yard officially opened
The grand opening of the newly converted Kendal Bowman Pub to provide supported housing for vulnerable young people took place on Wednesday, 11 December, 3pm.
The historic Kendal Bowman pub, purchased by Fairoak Housing Association, has now been transformed into seven self-contained apartments for local people with learning and other disabilities.
The Bowman, located in a prominent position on Kendal's Highgate, has stood empty for over six years and during this time, the property fell into disrepair. In addition to the supported accommodation, the ground floor of the former pub has been made into offices for Fairoak Housing. All seven flats are already let at affordable rents.
Thanks to an investment from South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) by way of a capital grant of £100,000 to Fairoak Housing Association, the project was able to go ahead.
Fairoak also received support for the project from Westmorland Homes Foundation another local charity.
